Screen Prints and a Sketchbook Peek

It seemed like a good time to have a bit of a retrospective on my work, so I’ve looked through a pile of old sketchbooks and sorted through a mountain of works on paper. It’s a strange experience looking back, but I felt it had to be done before I move forward and create new work.

Before upping sticks and venturing to the West Country from South West London way back in 2012, I used to have a screen print workshop on Swan Island in Twickenham. This is where I printed most of the editions you can see here. I have always enjoyed the process of screen printing, from mixing the colours to pulling the squeegee across and setting a new colour down. The prints have a flat, juicy and intense look that I really love. I like the layering aspect as it has synergy with the way I work digitally. My studio is now at the bottom of the garden and is somewhat cleaner than the Swan Island workshop, as I sadly had to sell my screen printing paraphernalia (and is thankfully a lot less prone to flooding!).

My screen print editions are now available on the Saatchi Art website

Here’s a flick through a sketchbook from the time when I was creating these prints. It’s scrappy and a bit weird in places, but it’s real.
